Retirement planning gives you security, freedom, and peace of mind. Do you imagine yourself traveling to your favourite destinations, worry free, in your senior years? Or comfortably relaxing at your cottage— that's paid off— with your loved ones? Hiring Applestock & Associates to plan your retirement will make that happen. Don’t spend your time focusing on financial fears. Focus on the wonderful possibilities that lie ahead instead.
Saving for Retirement
Don't assume that others—including the government or current employer—will take care of you 20 or 30 years from now. It’s risky to rely on CPP (Canada Pension Plan), OAS (Old Age Security), and a company sponsored pension plan as your sole means of funding retirement. What if 20 years from now CPP or OAS is cut by 50%? What if your employer files bankruptcy, or the pension administrators don’t invest the money properly?
I always say diversification is the key to financial success. For example, your home is probably your largest investment, and this asset could be used to fund your retirement. Prior to retirement, most people downsize their living space— which could mean selling your $900, 000 home and then buying a $500, 000 condo. The $400,000 difference can now be used to fund your retirement. And, if the money is invested correctly, you have the ability to receive cash distributions monthly, while deferring some or all taxation issues for a specific period of time.
A financial advisor will help you get the most return on your investment by considering ALL your retirement investment options, and then choosing the options that are best for you. I’ll reveal options to you that you never would have considered—because you didn't know they exist.
Why Hire a “Retirement Planner”?
Retirement planning alone is risky. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with complicated financial terms or confusing investment options. Instead, trust an industry professional you can rely on to manage your money on a day-to-day basis—rather than rolling the dice yourself.
There are so many people I sit down with that say, “I have no clue how much money per month I will retire with.” This is just one of the many things a trusted financial advisor will help you with. A financial advisor knows how to scan the market, assess your options and choose a retirement plan that will give you the retirement of your dreams.
The Planning Process
Don't wait until the last minute to plan for your retirement. Get an early start. The earlier you start planning for your future, the more financial security, and rewards you'll experience when your retirement comes. The retirement planning process has two major steps. Step one involves outlining, in detail, what your short-term and long-term financial goals are, and developing strategies to help you reach these goals. During step two, I’ll proactively manage your investment assets, retirement savings, and deliver routine account maintenance— providing regular updates and performance numbers year-to-year.
Retirement Plans: Key Benefits
- You’ll have an ongoing understanding of what your net worth is, and what your retirement will look like at 65 years of age
- When you retire, someone will “hold your hand” through the process (answer questions, help you with forms, trigger your pension, RRIF, etc.)
- You’ll know the exact dollar amount hitting your bank account every month
- I’ll assist you with investment taxation issues, and estate planning concerns
Do you Dream of Early Retirement?
Early retirement isn’t only for the wealthy. You can retire early, too, with a retirement plan and the help of a financial advisor. Planning for early retirement sometimes requires more discipline and commitment from both parties. Most of us need help when it comes to saving for retirement, aggressively paying down debt and planning for retirement.
I’ll help you make responsible and realistic financial decisions so you know your money is safe. I will also make calculated risks, when necessary, to make sure your money grows in time. You deserve to profit from your investments. Your future financial security is what matters most to me. I don't follow the same formula for every client. I consider your unique situation when making every decision. Saving for retirement is easy with the help of a financial advisor you trust.
Retirement Investments: RRSPs aren’t for everyone
RRSPs (Registered Retirement Savings Plans) are not always the best investment for someone with short-term goals or a in a low tax bracket (income under $40,000 a year). The initial benefit to buying an RRSP is the tax deduction. But, if you’re in a high tax bracket then the benefits are much greater.
When you open an RRSP account, it’s expected that you’ll save that money until your retirement (eg. age 65). At 65, you can then convert this RRSP to an RRIF (Registered Retirement Income Fund), and receive income monthly. But, if you’re in a low tax bracket—or cannot commit to leaving this money invested until you retire—then you really should not be purchasing RRSPs on a regular basis.
A financial advisor will help you get the most return on your retirement investments by considering ALL the investment options available to you, and choosing the best options for your situation. I will reveal options to you that you never would have considered—because you didn't know they exist.
Retirement Planning Success Story
Take a proactive approach now, rather than leaving your retirement planning to chance or the very last minute. I have clients who are benefiting from a retirement plan we put together for their mother 10 years ago. The plan was to pay her retirement, and extended care fees month-to-month, with limited tax consequence and limited erosion to her principal/capital investment. The result: the elderly mother’s cost of living has been taken care of for over 10 years, taxation each year is minimal, and we’re still keeping the her estate intact.
What separates Arron from other financial advisors?
I work for my clients, and my clients ONLY. I don’t work for a bank or proprietary-type institution— which only offers clients in-house products, or decides level of service based on net worth. I also have a proactive philosophy rather than a reactive one. If “you” the client has to pick up the phone or email me when there is a problem then I am likely not doing my job. Ethics, communication skills, customer service, and 15 years of professional experience are the keys to my success.
